The Assumption Parish Child Nutrition Program participates in the School Breakfast Program. Any child at any school may purchase a meal through the School Breakfast Program. Children may be eligible for free or reduced‐price meals. The School Breakfast Program operates in the same manner as the National School Lunch Program. Nutrition standards for school breakfasts are designed to provide ¼ of the child's Recommended Dietary Allowance and meet the recommendations of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Research has linked breakfast to academic learning. Research has shown the following:

  • Starting a school day with a nutritious breakfast helps students stay alert and perform better in school
  • Missing breakfast and experiencing hunger can impair children's ability to learn
  • Eating breakfast at school helps children perform better
  • School breakfast improves student behavior and learning environment
  • Breakfast can improve children's diets
  • Breakfast may reduce obesity risk

9/26/13 > New Health Insurance Marketplace Coverage Options and Your Health Coverage

General Information
When key parts of the health care law take effect in 2014, there will be a new way to buy health insurance: the Health Insurance Marketplace. To assist you as you evaluate options for you and your family, this notice provides some basic information about the new Marketplace and employment-based health coverage offered by your employer.

What is the Health Insurance Marketplace?
The Marketplace is designed to help you find health insurance that meets your needs and fits your budget. The Marketplace offers "one-stop shopping" to find and compare private health insurance options. You may also be eligible for a new kind of tax credit that lowers your monthly premium right away. Open enrollment for health insurance coverage through the Marketplace begins in October 2013 for coverage starting as early as January 1, 2014.

Can I Save Money on my Health Insurance Premiums in the Marketplace?
You may qualify to save money and lower your monthly premium, but only if your employer does not offer coverage, or offers coverage that doesn't meet certain standards. The savings on your premium that you're eligible for depends on your household income.

Does Employer Health Coverage Affect Eligibility for Premium Savings through the Marketplace?
Yes. If you have an offer of health coverage from your employer that meets certain standards, you will not be eligible for a tax credit through the Marketplace and may wish to enroll in your employer's health plan. However, you may be eligible for a tax credit that lowers your monthly premium , or a reduction in certain cost-sharing if your employer does not offer coverage to you at all or does not offer coverage that meets certain standards. If the cost of a plan from your employer that would cover you (and not any other members of your family) is more than 9.5% of your household income for the year, or if the coverage your employer provides does not meet the "minimum value" standard set by the Affordable Care Act, you may be eligible for a tax credit (An employer-sponsored health plan meets the "minimum value standard" if the plan's share of the total allowed benefit costs covered by the plan is no less than 60 percent of such costs).

Note: If you purchase a health plan through the Marketplace instead of accepting health coverage offered by your employer, then you may lose the employer contribution (if any) to the employer-offered coverage. Also, this employer contribution -as well as your employee contribution to employer-offered coverage- is often excluded from income for Federal and State income tax purposes. Your payments for coverage through the Marketplace are made on an after tax basis.

How Can I Get More Information?
For more information about your coverage offered by your employer, please check your summary plan description or contact Carrie Griffin via

The Marketplace can help you evaluate your coverage options, including your eligibility for coverage through the Marketplace and its cost. Please visit for more information, including an online application for health insurance coverage and contact information for a Health Insurance Marketplace in your area.

5/17/12 > Summer Food Service Program

During the school year, many children receive free and reduced- price breakfast and lunch through the School Breakfast and National School Lunch Programs. What happens when school lets out?

Hunger is one of the most severe roadblocks to the learning process. Lack of nutrition during the summer months may set up a cycle for poor performance once school begins again. Hunger also may make children more prone to illness and other health issues. The Summer Food Service Program is designed to fill that nutrition gap and make sure children can get the nutritious meals they need.

To find meals and sites in your community, call the National Hunger Hotline at 1‐866‐3‐HUNGRY to see if there is a USDA Summer Meals Program near you and your children can eat for free. By calling this toll free number, you will be given information on where you can find summer sites in your area, as well as additional food assistance information.

You can find more info online at

The Assumption Parish School Board is leveraging the power of Internet to radically improve the governance process while saving time, taxpayer dollars and the environment. The new eGovernance initiative will replace the old and costly method of compiling, printing, binding and distributing paper agenda packets by hand. The remarkably powerful, easy-to-use solution will enable the district to maximize the effectiveness of their board meetings with increased transparency, providing a basis for better and more open communication with the public, while dramatically increasing productivity and saving thousands of dollars annually.

The paperless meeting solution, called BoardDocs® LT, is a 100% Web-based service that includes many features from our industry-leading eAgenda solution. By making meeting agendas and supporting documents available on the Internet, the Assumption Parish School Board will be able distribute documents associated with board meetings more quickly and efficiently, at a dramatically reduced cost to the district.

Electronic distribution will not only save time and resources, it will also provide unprecedented public access via the Assumption Parish School Board's Web site to agenda items and other board-related information. This process will allow interested parties to review information prior to board meetings. All documents associated with the meeting are automatically archived and can be accessed by meeting date or by using the system's comprehensive search feature.

Additionally, BoardDocs LT will increase the amount of time board members have to review agenda information, enabling them to better prepare for meetings. Under the old paper system, the meeting packet could not be distributed until every document had been prepared, submitted and approved. Once all the documents were submitted, staff members would typically spend two days assembling the documents into packets before distributing them to the board members. Through the MetaSearch feature, Board members will also have access to best practices from other districts that are using the system, allowing them to gain important knowledge about initiatives other boards have considered and implemented.

The new eGovernance features can be accessed via the district's Web site at by clicking on the BoardDocs logo.

BoardDocs was developed in partnership with K-12 administration and board members. It uses a structured, collaborative work flow that is specifically designed to meet the unique needs and legal requirements of public school boards, county commissions and municipal governments.
